Origami is introducing our Metadata Flow tool, a powerful feature upgrade designed to ensure production metadata moves from set to VFX and post with the same integrity as picture and sound.

For years, metadata has been treated as secondary in the workflow.

Picture is protected.

Sound is protected.

Metadata… is often left behind.

Despite being critical to editorial decisions, VFX accuracy, and final delivery, metadata is frequently fragmented across systems, lost between handoffs, or inconsistently delivered.

Our Metadata Flow Tool addresses this directly.

What Metadata Flow Does

Metadata Flow ensures that metadata is not just created, but actively delivered.

With this feature, Origami:

  • Discovers metadata across multiple sources
  • Aggregates it into a unified dataset
  • Binds it directly to the media
  • Delivers it downstream - complete and intact

This happens automatically within the Origami workflow, removing the need for manual collection, tracking, or reconciliation.

Powered by Origami Link

Metadata Flow is enabled by Origami Link, which operates on set and across environments continuously collecting metadata in real-time.

Origami Link aggregates metadata from:

  • Camera systems
  • Editorial files and production reports
  • Colour pipelines (CDLs, LUT associations)
  • Editorial timelines and EDLs
  • VFX shot data and annotations

Rather than relying on a single source, Origami Link builds a comprehensive metadata layer, ensuring valuable information is never lost between departments.

Seamless from Set to VFX

The biggest impact of Metadata Flow is at the point where workflows are most fragile: handoffs.

Traditionally, metadata degrades as it moves:

  • Set → Editorial
  • Editorial → VFX
  • VFX → Post

With Metadata Flow:

  • Metadata is continuously tracked through each stage
  • Deliverables include full contextual metadata
  • VFX vendors receive exactly what editorial intended

The result is a seamless, robust pipeline where metadata travels with the media, not separately, and not inconsistently.

Why It Matters

As productions scale globally and workflows become more automated, metadata is no longer optional - it is foundational.

Metadata Flow enables:

  • More accurate and reliable VFX turnovers
  • Reduced manual intervention and chasing
  • Fewer errors caused by missing context
  • Greater confidence across departments

Available Now in Origami

Metadata Flow is now available as a feature within the Origami platform and works natively with Origami Link.
